25 Jun (Wed) – CCAB

Though the scoreline was flattering, it masked numerous ugly plays by the CH team. Definitely more improvement needed on every front, starting from individual attitudes and desires. To cap it all, forward Leong Wei Hao sprained his ankle even before the start of warm up.

Catholic High kicks off SZ C Div with big win

23 Jun (Mon) – CCAB

Despite still needing to iron out a few kinks, Catholic High was never troubled in a 76-27 win over Holy Innocents High in the first match of the C Division South Zone competition.

Catholic High jumped to an early 18-6 first quarter lead and continued to extend the gap throughout the four quarters.

One troubling thing though, the team committed a massive 22 personal fouls throughout the game through mainly bad defensive habits, which they would have to work to correct in the next few games.

20 Jun (Fri) – Singapore Basketball Centre

The third and fourth placing match was closer than it looked.

It took an 18-5 run by Anglican High in the third quarter to take the game away from a resilient Catholic High team which had frustrated the East Zone champion with an efficient team defense. The match was locked at 20-15 in favour of the team in green in the first half.

As much as Catholic High tried to mount a comeback in the fourth, turnovers and missed opportunities again marked the Achilles heel of the team. In the end, Anglican Hgh proved too strong with a 53-26 win, indicating that the school which has experienced much success in recent years has much to work on before the start of the zonal competition.

Centre Bryan Koh (#6, in black) put in a man-of-the-match performance with 22 points to help his team to a slim victory.

18 Jun (Wed) – CCAB

A last minute 3-pointer off the glass by Catholic High centre Justin Lee ensured that his team took home the spoils in a thrilling second round group match against fellow South Zoner’s Yuying Sec. The team in white had led most of the game but eventually succumbed in the fourth quarter by a razor thin 50-53 score.

Catholic High looked truly down and out when they trailed 41-46 in the final quarter with two key players fouled out. However, centre Bryan Koh sparked a 12-4 run in the final few minutes with 7 points to lead his team to victory. They were aided by a Yuying Sec team which failed to convert their free throw opportunities late in the game.

The game was keenly contested from the start, with Yuying jumping to an early lead. Yuying’s centres were able to crash the board for offensive rebounds, which was the telling difference. They eventually converted seven free throws to lead 11-5 after one quarter.

Catholic High managed to mount a comeback in the second quarter, narrowing the score to 24-25 at the end of the first half. Their inability to secure their defensive rebounds, however, allowed the Yuying players to put in another six free throws to maintain their lead.

RI exposes CH weaknesses with T-Net Cup win

June 17, 2008

17 Jun (Tue) – CCAB

In a highly anticpated match between the two traditional South Zone basketball powerhouses, it was RI who triumphed with a thumping 61-33 win. The win cruelly exposed the lack of depth in the Catholic High team and put the team in green in a firm position to qualify for the final of the T-Net Cup.

Both teams began the match in determined fashion, with the score tied at 10-10 after the first quarter. However, RI’s Jordaan Goh (#8) scored 9 points in the second quarter to lead 26-22 going into the half-time break.
