CH starts nationals with a loss to Woodlands Ring

July 30, 2008

29 Jul 08 (Tue), Singapore Basketball Centre – Sometimes it’s hard to get out of a rut.

Catholic High left themselves a deep hole to climb out of when they succumbed 33-54 to Woodlands Ring in a first round national inter-school C Division match.

Woodlands Ring used a 29-13 second half blitz to pull away decisively after a close first half.

The only positive that the team can take away from the match is healthy bodies for the crucial next two matches. There is still a chance, although a slim one, that the team can still qualify. All is not lost.

They would have to improve greatly in their performance as a team though, and do it urgently.

But Mayflower’s Lingyi (#7) scored a spectacular 3-pointer from the baseline with less than ten seconds on the clock to send the game into overtime and deny Catholic High.

It’s even painful as I write this.

16 Jul (Wed) – CCAB

It turned out to be a no-contest.

RI players were quicker, more aggressive and played better as a team to win 73-42 and secure top placing for the group.

Jumping to a 16-8 lead by the end of the first quarter, RI never looked back. The score was 31-18 after the end of the first half. Though Catholic High threatened to make a comeback late in the third quarter, it fizzled out in fourth as RI went on a 23-8 run. Key players for RI was Jordaan Goh who single-handedly scored 27 points and point guard Justin Chua who controlled play very well.
