Track and Field C division team holds off rival schools for runners-up position

Chua Chu Kang Stadium, Wednesday, 14 Apr, 2010 -- Catholic High School’s Heng Yu Jie led from start to finish in the C division boys 1500m finals to win the race in a time of 4 minutes 34.71 seconds. With the win, he achieved a rare distinction of garnering a double gold-medal haul with his 3000m final win as well.
More importantly, his clinching of 18 points from the two events contributed to Catholic High’s eventual points total of 81, just enough to hold off a charging Singapore Sports School with 79 points and Raffles Institution with 74 points.
Hwa Chong Institution clinched the C Division title with an unassailable lead of 131 points.
Throwers Benjamin Yeo Zhi Hui ang Cleavon Chong Gen Yi also came in third and fourth in their javelin event, achieving personal best distances of 38.18 metres and 36.06 metres respectively on the final day.
The final day also saw the Catholic High B Division team clinch a sixth position finish in a tight contest. Sprinters Louis Wong and Timothee Yap could only achieve a seventh and eigth position in the 100m final event.
Hwa Chong Institution won the overall B division title again with 130 points, followed by St Joseph’s Institution (106 points), ACS (Independent) (98 points), Singapore Sports School (95 points), Victoria School (72 points) and Catholic High School (56 points).
